The primary contention of this book is that, as spiritual beings, we all live beyond death and eventually return to earth in new human bodies. I guess I was more interested in case studies and stories at this point in time, whereas this book only presented a couple, and was more about trying to give a balanced look at the concept and the evidence for it and the objections to it. Most of his arguments and views, I agreed with. So I was a bit bored. =/
Some things to watch out for, though... the author at one point discusses the possible contribution of past lives to being gay or bisexual in this life, only he seems to think gay = gender confusion. He says at one point there's nothing wrong with being gay, but I was kind of shocked at his lack of knowledge on what being gay is. Usually it's only bisexuals who get labeled "confused". Also discussed are miscarriage and abortion, as well as multiple personalities, but seemingly only from his point of view.
But I did revel in seeing someone else point out that those "skeptics" who refuse to give what they call the paranormal any consideration or fair hearing, who dismiss it out of hand without bothering to learn about it, are practicing the opposite of science, and not fitting the definition of skeptic at all. They're biased, and can even be zealots.
Actually, I agreed with much of the first half of the book, but the second half was so speculative, and I don't know how much it mattered, to me, or in general. I think again he was speaking to people who aren't used to the concepts, anticipating the concerns they would have, being used to thinking in an Abrahamic paradigm.
