Nagash the Sorcerer (Time of Legends Series) Book

Its back to the Warhammer fantasy universe which is considerably overdue. After reading the Tyrion and Teclis books, I looked online and the next logical stage was The Rise of Nagash trilogy. I was both excited and anxious about this series since I really wanted to explore the origins of The Tomb Kings of Khemri, since it was an army I knew very little about. I was also nervous as to how I would find the writing of this series because I had seen mixed views before I started book 1, and unfortunately these feelings are still with me after finishing the novel.

Nagash the Sorcerer tells the story of the very early days of Nagash, son of the Priest King of Khemri and his steady rise to power over the land of Nehekhara and its rulers. The novels focuses on two separate timelines, which I find quite a gamble for most authors, especially if have never read a book of theirs before. Sadly, I found the two timelines to be quite confusing since there was two much jumping between them and only really got to grips with both about halfway through the novel once I had established all the major players.

Throughout the novel I enjoyed most of the battle sequences, (particularly towards the end where sphinxes appeared). In addition, nearly every chapter where Nagash himself was involved, as I found him such a fantastic character, even though he is a major antagonist of the Warhammer universe.

Certainly not my favourite Warhammer novel, but Nagash the Sorcerer was still a fairly enjoyable book with some good elements, just not enough to put it on a par with my other recent reads. A 3 star book for me overall, but I will be continuing the series as part of my huge Warhammer project.
