The Legend of the Grail Book

Found this by accident. I'm fascinated by the tension between these being relatively faithful to the medieval source material, and being the author's attempt at creating a unified narrative, from disparate, often conflicting texts. It's like the Mucha tarot for the same reason-- it's like a remix. The spiritual and political motives of the Grail legends are evident, as are the limited and problematic roles of women. It's also intriguing when pagan elements and imagery creep in, since the Christian elements repeat ad nauseum, those elements (hints at gnostic goddess devotion, rituals performed by maidens in three, etc.).

I consider this a very happy accident. I'm both relieved and disappointed I've finished it. interesting to contract with modern action movies-- the formula has been in place a very long time.
