In his third madcap, comic-sketch adventure, Damien Drooth decides it’s time to pass on his crime-solving skills to a group of trainees. Together they go out looking for “criminle tipes,” and eventually find a hot suspect at the Dog Show. What happens while they are waiting for the police to arrive amounts to a hilarious riot of an ending. Literally!
In this humorous middle grade novel, the young narrator introduces himself, "My name is Damian Drooth and I'm a successful detective." As a super sleuth, Damian sets up a detective school and soon has a huge following of neighborhood children. While his mother is away, Damian begins his classes in the garden shed and charges a bag of chips per child. To impress the students, Damian brings press clips from the local newspaper, and he gives specific instructions about how to spot a criminal. Then Damian and Lavendar set off to solve a crime. Meanwhile, the town and the police see Damian as a troublemaker. Everywhere the boy goes, he spots potential suspects and creates turmoil. When they get to a dog show, Damian calls the police and alerts them to a dangerous bank robber in the vicinity. The next day, there are big headlines, and all the children at school gather around to read the newspaper. But has Damian really solved a crime? Or has he simply caused a lot of commotion? Damian Drooth is destined to follow in the footsteps of Sherlock Holmes and Encyclopedia Brown, gathering a huge fan club in the field of children's books.
