Some dogs featured here have become therapy dogs for hospitals and nursing homes; reading partners for children; friends to at-risk teens and the injured in veterans affairs hospitals; service dogs for the deaf and blind; arson dogs; and even search-and-rescue dogs. Some of these special dogs are disabled, blind, deaf, missing limbs, but they don't seem to know it. These spunky, happy animals have repaid the kindness of their rescuers in spades, bringing the therapy of love to people in need, sometimes even saving lives.

To the Rescue: Found Dogs with a Mission
All of the dogs in this biography were rescued from pounds or found injured. They were given second life by their new owners who provided medical care, homes, training and love. The dogs (and one cat) give back by working as search and rescue dogs or therapy dogs. If you are a dog lover you will love this book. If you are not, the stories are short and provide human interest and inspiration. Triumph was rescued by Moe Moeller, retired director of the Red Cross. Triumph was left by the side of the road in Turkey. The Siberian Huskey's back legs had been cut off and she was left to die. Her journey to health took the efforts of several Good Samaritans. She was fitted with prosthetic legs and trained through Therapy ARC. She volunteers at Children's Hospital at Vanderbilt. Published in 2009 this book connects readers with how to get involved, how to adopt a dog and where to get training.
