As Captain of the team, it is up to Jimmie to make the right decisions about who will play what positions. His best friend Paul is a good pitcher. However, Jimmie wants to be the pitcher. So Paul decides to pitch for another team, the Red Rockets. Jimmie is upset but he is not willing to give up his role as pitcher yet. Jimmie's ever present younger, observant brother does not agree with Jimmie's actions. Jimmie is only thinking of himself, which could jeopardize the entire team's reputation. By helping the team, Jimmie might also find that he will be helping himself. This story examines the repercussions of selfishness, the power of teamwork, and the success that follows the right decision. The font is large. The main idea of the story circulates around boys' sports in a realistic setting. There are no graphics, yet this is not a deterrent. The descriptions are clean and clear and the vocabulary is easy to embrace. This action packed story is a great read for sports fans. Matt Christopher Royalties, Inc., renewed this story in 1984.
