Alison Cole's got it all: She's gorgeous, dating a steamy surfer boy, and has just been crowned Beverly Hills High Freshman Class President. Then during a special “symmetry” surgery, a lightning bolt zaps her, and Alison instantly transforms into Hottie—that is, a totally sizzling superhero with the power to shoot fire from her fingers!

Shunned as a Pyro-Freak, Alison must adopt dorky David Eels as her crime-fi ghting sidekick. Worse, she's falling for the one guy who wants to “extinguish” her forever, Junior Class President of Cuteness— and wannabe fi refi ghter—T. Hull. But she doesn't realize that a supervillain's lurking. . . .

Has Hottie met her match?

Children's Literature

When Alison Cole is first introduced, she seems to have it all: wealth, a home in Beverly Hills, flawless beauty, and popularity. She has just been elected freshman class president and her acceptance speech is nothing short of adorable. The only flies in the ointment are her best friends, who secretly hate her, and a wicked stepmother. The friends talk her into having an unnecessary plastic surgery procedure, which changes her face not at all but due to some kind of electrical failure during the surgery, turns her into a girl who can wield fire from her fingers. While she recovers, her friends turn the entire school against her, leaving her with few people still speaking to her, one a wannabe superhero who is spectacularly educated in the ways of super-herodom by his voracious reading of comic books. The other is the handsome and charismatic junior class president who still wants to date Alison even while she is shunned by the rest of the school. Of course, he does not know about her secret powers and she wants to keep it that way. The plot, always a little off, gets zanier as the story proceeds, yet by the end is fully captivating. Will Alison win the day and find her identity as popular girl or female superhero while remaining true to herself, or will it all come crashing down around her lovely ears? Read it and see. A good book for those who like crazy people, crazy plots, and over-the-top action. Reviewer: Myrna Dee Marler
