I just started planning my wedding but this book seems worth twice it's weight in gold! It was the first book I read and the best so far. If you only get one book for planning your wedding, let it be this. It covers pretty much every aspect of wedding planning. Each section, say the cake section, starts out with a concise but through explanation of how to plan that part of the wedding, do's/don't's, options for all budgets, and issues that may arise and the how to deal with them. Then following the write-ups are checklists, budget worksheets, and information worksheets for things like overall budget tracking, seating charts, ceremony planning, caterer, invitations, and so on. The book is great because it reads very quickly as many of the pages are dedicated these reference worksheets. Probably 50+ worksheets and checklists for everything you need to keep track of. The worksheets and checklists are, again, through but concise. Great for a quick reference throughout the planning process for the organized bride and groom. It's even got some pockets in the back to store receipts and other paperwork! It's all this that comes together and creates a very calming and supportive vibe to planning your own wedding. With this book, I really feel like I can plan my own wedding and it does't have to be a dis-organized stress-ball of a couple of months leading up to it. The only things I would have liked some more focus on was more budget tips, a more detailed section on all things related to the bride's attire, a section specifically dedicated to decorations that weren't flowers (the decor/flowers was one chapter that mostly focused on flowers), and a chapter about all the little things you have to do after the wedding to wrap things up. The bullet-point list of the difference between very formal, formal, semiformal, and informal weddings was a real gem and will help people plan a cohesive wedding that matches guests expectations. Also, the author is firm about some etiquette do's and don't's, which is great as most people want to host a proper wedding. Yet I never felt like she was telling me I needed to spend ridiculous amounts of money to have my dream wedding. She gave lots of great judgement-free advice on budget options for most aspects of wedding planning and in fact was often supportive of more budget-conscious choices, if that's what you want for your wedding.
