Violence in the Middle East is so commonplace that the general public can almost become numb to it. This violence seem almost hopeless in nature perhaps nowhere more so than in Israel and Palestine. The violent struggle for hegemony in this region pits people against one another for both religious and political reasons. The Israeli-Palestinian struggle appears to be virtually insoluble and so internecine as to practically defy understanding. Yet, the conflict between Israelis and Palestinians also has global implications as it pulls nations into play from all parts of the world. Thus, it is fitting and proper that the subject of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict be presented to younger readers. That is precisely what author Cory Gunderson does in this illustrated volume in the "World in Conflict" series. In this readable and balanced book author Gunderson paints a picture of a long-standing struggle and one that has ample injustice on both sides. In the end, Cory Gunderson notes that leaders on both sides advocate for peace but also fail to achieve that outcome. Hopefully, a resolution of this problem will occur in the near future.
