I've just finished Shamans of the World: Extraordinary First-Person Accounts of Healings, Mysteries, and Miracles - for the second time in the two month Group Read. The shamans' stories have even more impact with the second reading - I'm sure this is a book I'll revisit from time to time.
Each section begins with a short introduction with some background information. Contrary to expectations of mystical mystery and possibly deliberate obfuscation, the healers themselves seemed practical and very much of this world, and their philosophies imbued with realism and common sense - love too.
I don't want to spoil the book for anyone who intends to read it, so I'll just say how amazingly generous all the contributors were for sharing their stories in such honesty and detail - real insights and inspiration are to be found between these pages - and hope for the Earth too.
The only thing that would have made the book perfect for me would have been to have found a Siberian shaman's story with the others, but perhaps there were reasons why this was not possible.
Definitely deserving of five stars in my book.
