Fascinating and thought provoking ... the author Simmons is convinced that Jesus survived the Crucifixion and the spread of Christianity beyond Jerusalem is tied to Jesus' survival and his emigration to Europe via Egypt. Using Coptic sources and the Jewish Talmud, Simmans investigation shows that Jesus settled in Rennes-le Chateau, a very sophisticated and contemporary center of spiritual diversityin southern France. Here he was safe from the cultural dictatorship of the Roman Church and was able to further nurture his Gnostic and heretic ideas ... this resistance to Rome gave rise to a religious culture that included a fusion of Gnostic elements, Pythagorean, and Kabbalistic teachings. This he claims is the true essence of Christ's message and was the foundation on which the Knights Templar built.
