A simple introduction to such natural landmarks as Old Faithful and Niagara Falls, including their history, beauty, importance in tourism, and other facts.
The United States has many natural landmarks and most of these are considered national treasures. Once designated as a landmark certain laws are created to preserve and protect these important natural formations. The Grand Canyon, Niagara Falls, the Florida Everglades, and Old Faithful are the natural landmarks that are described in this simple and straightforward book. Bold and bright photographs accompany the single page description. Twelve additional natural landmarks are briefly discussed and smaller but equally beautiful photographs are provided. Among these are the Mississippi River, Mount Saint Helens, and the Painted Desert. A basic United States map is used to indicate where these various treasures can be found. Along with a glossary, index, and list of several book and Internet sources for additional information, the ending of the book contains an activity that encourages the reader to further explore natural landmarks on their own. The book is part of the "American Symbols" series. 2004, Weigl Publishers, Ages 6 to 8.
