The Louisiana Seafood Bible: Crawfish Book

I took a detour. I was reading African American Women of the Old West (a book I am about half way through and am finding facinating) and was caught by the biography of Abby Fisher. She had a notable life, especially as a entrepreneur in the food industry. She is recognized as the author of the first cookbook by an African American woman. I had to see if the cookbook was avialable and it is. I bought the Kindle version for just under $4.00 and am glad I did. There are multiple recipes I am going to try, including Fricaseed Chicken, coconut pie and some of the stuffed vegatables. There are intriguing recipes for pastries, cake, preserves, pickles and jams that I also may attempt. I will pass on the calves head and liver croquettes, but not much else. It will be a bit of a challenge to use these recipes and a novice cook would be pretty stumped by missing details and 19th century measurements. I am an experienced cook and know some of the recipees will take some trial and error and deducing directions that are missing or implied - Hey who doesn't love the technical challenge of The Great British Baking Show. This book will let you test yourself in the same tradition - and there will be memorable experiences along the way I am sure. As I researched more about Abby Fisher I also Came across the Greenfield Villiage and Henry Ford Museum in Deearfield Michigan. This looks to be an exceptional living historical museum and low and behold has a restaurant called Mrs. Fisher's where her traditional recipes are served. I think I have a road trip stop to make.
