Covenant and Communion: The Biblical Theology of Pope Benedict XVI
Scott Hahn provides a very good synthesis of the work of Benedict XVI (Joseph Ratzinger) in approaching the use of Scripture, and the accompanying critique of the historico-critical method of biblical study and exegesis. In doing so, Hahn doesn't attempt to use anything other than the words of Benedict himself, and thus it would now be possible to read any of the constitutive work of the Opus Magnus of Benedict/Ratzinger in a completely different light - as part of a concerted whole rather than disjointed bits.
For anyone wanting to read the work of Benedict/Ratzinger, this book by Scott Hahn would be, in my estimation, a valuable aid and primer: not to the work itself, but rather the underlying methodology that influences and informs the work.
Highly recommended!
(Having read this book by Hahn, and now having a better grasp of the underlying methodology, I am tempted to return to some of the works of Benedict (and Ratzinger to a lesser degree) and read them afresh...time will tell on that one.)
