VOYA

Brought together in this collection are practical, "down-to-earth," articles on all aspects of running a school library media center-the majority of which are from issues of Library Talk, The Book Report, and Technology Connection published since 1993. Topics include time management, flexible scheduling, training and evaluating paraprofessional staff and library aides, stretching the budget, facilities, selection of materials, and automation. Technology is addressed across all areas of library media management.

The articles are short and mainly written by school library media specialists, including Lesley J. Farmer writing on technology issues and Carol Simpson addressing copyright law in different contexts. The advantages of this collection are that the articles represent many different perspectives and provide very basic "how to" information with library tips for practitioners in the field from trouble-shooting technical computer glitches to equipment for a multimedia center to selecting "E-Zines" and writing grant proposals. Published in Linworth's Professional Growth Series, this book supplements but does not replace basic texts such as Administering the School Library Media Center by Betty J. Morris with John T. Gillespie and Diana Spirt (Bowker, 1992/VOYA August 1993) and The School Library Media Center by Blanche Woolls (Libraries Unlimited, 1994), which provide more in-depth information for the education of library media specialists. Illus. Biblio.
