Beowulf, the Oldest English Epic Book

Beowulf as translated by Thomas C. Kennedy is a new and fascinating translation of a centuries old tale. It is a journey back to when dragons and monsters were the topics of great storytellers. Beowulf is an Anglo-Saxon tale about a young warrior who slays a monster and then has to slay the monster's vengeful mother. Many winters later the warrior, having grown old, is killed while saving his own tribe from the wrath of firebreathing dragon. The poem comes out of a preliterate oral tradition, weaving together ancient folklore with details of medieval history.
