Gone the Dreams and Dancing
Well, I hadn't read any of Douglas Jones' other books, and I've never seen "The Searchers", so I came fresh to the story of Quanah Parker ("Kwahadi Parry") and his white captive mother and the Comanches walking the white man's road. And it's just as sad as you might think, at least in this fictionalization, and by choosing a Welshman as his narrator, Jones maneuvers a way to make his prose as poetic as one of those choir-sung hymns Liverpool Morgan never heard in real life. Excellent.
