The characterization as Descriptive, rather than Annotated, along with the high price, mark the reference as a tool primarily for collectors and dealers. It might however be useful as well to librarians, bibliographers, editors, literary historians, biographers, and others interested in the published work of American writer Heller (1923-99), best known for his World War II novel Catch-22. Bruccoli, curator of the Joseph Heller Collection at the University of South Carolina, and Bucker (both English, U. of South Carolina) begin by listing chronologically all separately published books and pamphlets wholly or substantially by Heller, including all editions in English. Then they list chronologically titles written or edited by others in which his work appears, first magazine or newspaper publications, and interviews with him. A secondary bibliography is appended. They do not supply an index. Annotation c. Book News, Inc.,Portland, OR
