In 1960, Dr. Seuss created the book Green Eggs and Ham using just 50 words. Bennett Cerf, the head of Random House Publishers had bet Seuss he could not do it. But Dr. Seuss always enjoyed a challenge. And he especially liked to write books that children who were just learning to read could enjoy. Theodor Seuss Geisel was born in 1904 in Springfield, MA. He became a talented author and illustrator. Throughout his life he worked as an advertising artist, wrote for many magazines, published cartoons and comic strips, and worked for the Special Services Division in Hollywood when the Army sent him there during WWII. He was still working when he died at the age of 87.
