Despite an abundance of elementary mistakes and some curious exclusions, Kabatchnik's book is excellent. It details rare, long-lost productions with aplomb. My only worry reading this book is if there are more errors than the ones that stand out so readily: it's immediately obvious that Kabatchnik is mistaken when he states that there are 60 Sherlock Holmes short stories and three novels (there are 56 stories and four novels), but who is to say what else is right or wrong?
Even with the uncertainty that all is well and all is correct, this is an invaluable book, and well worth your time. If you don't have an overwhelming interest in Sherlockian adaptions, however, it may be worth waiting until another scholar tackles the same subject.
