Tells the story of Pablo Picasso as he grows through his early days as an artist, his discovery of cubism, and his later years of sculpture and painting to become a famous ...
Young Spanish readers will gain an overall insight into the life of Pablo Picasso in this biography. The text is extensive per page but does provide important details of the artist's life. Picasso's blue period, rose period, and style of cubism are expressed in the book. The author discloses his mood swings, marriages, and view on the Nazis destruction on Guernica. In order to express his anguish over the destruction of the Spanish town, he painted a work by the same title which was exhibited at the 1944 World's Fair in Paris. Young readers will be notably impressed by Picasso's commitment to his craft by painting until his death at age ninety-one. The epilogue contains an actual photograph of the artist. In addition, lists of important dates in his life are presented at the end of the book. The illustrations that accompany the text are coarse but neither supplement nor detract from the text on the pages. Part of the "On My Own" series.
