The Basic Guide to Young Adult Ministry
I got most of the way through this book, but I just could not continue. It presents the view that young people today are all about "me first", and to have a successful young adult ministry we should indulge them in this. It presents a completely worldly viewpoint, talking about demographics in ministries as if ministries in the Church were some sort of affirmative action program. No mention is made of spiritually discerning the need for a group nor praying for its success. It essentially espouses the horizontal ecclesiology that has prevailed over the last 50 years, which has led to the emptying of our churches. When Cardinal Bernadin was held up by the authors as a model for ministry, I just had to say, "I'm getting off this bus."
