What makes this book so powerful is we follow her life for ten years after the war to see a badly damaged young woman who never truly recovers from the impact of the war. There is no happy ending for her after the fall of Nazi Germany, and that's what makes this book so powerful. We see the pain and suffering that comes after liberation for Europe's Jews.
