Exposure: 20 Years of Photographing the World Book

Photography is an essential part of what Outside is all about. And so, to celebrate the magazine's 20th anniversary, the editors have collected the most stunning, provocative, and artful images to appear in the magazine's pages from 1977 through 1997. Presented here is the work of some of the medium's most recognized names: Michael Nichols, Richard Misrach, Raymond Weeks, and Dan Winters, to name a few. In keeping with the magazine's mission to take risks and welcome new perspectives, however, displayed here also is the work of lesser-known photographers, whose talents ensure they won't stay obscure for long.

Many of the images in this book originally appeared in the magazine's Exposure section, a monthly photographic gallery of established and emerging artists, and a long favorite of Outside's readers. It seemed only fitting to give this book the same name. The other images in this volume were selected from shoots assigned for the magazine's feature stories and represent the unique sensibilities and editorial vision of the award-winning publication that frist presented them.
