Dorian (Large Print Edition) Book

Just...no. I can't even begin to explain why I disliked this novel. Oh, yes, I can. The characters had no real personality or life to them (aside from Anton who could have been awesome, but was instead merely, "meh"). I thought this might be interesting, and I'm not entirely sure how or why, but I ended up reading the whole book. I didn't enjoy it, but...I read it anyway.

The whole novel just felt entirely too stilted, almost like the author was writing it simply to write a book - not because she had any inspiration or liking for her characters. Perhaps I am just tired of the endless number of terrible vampire novels out there, especially when you compare them to stellar books like Octavia Butler's "Fledgling" (which, although extremely good, feels unfinished and as if it needs to be the first of two, or the first of a trilogy).

So: the main female character was largely unappealing; childish, petty and inclined toward histrionic behavior. I HATE female characters like that, which almost certainly caused a large portion of my dislike. Additionally, the main MALE character spent all of his time pandering to her idiotic behaviors. Ugh. Just ugh. Weak-willed, weak-minded characters who do not even seem to be intentionally (on the part of the author) weak annoy me.

I don't really have much else to say. The bulk of the novel was slow and uninteresting - all of the action is crammed into the last 25% of the novel, by which point...I no longer really cared.
