.hack// G. U. Vol. 01: Terror of Death (Novel) Book

Flew through this thing in a few hours and I'm not happy about a lot of things.
To start off, it pretty hard to overcome how monumentally STUPID the concept of the The World is. That's not something unusual for anyone that has ever watched anime, but here it's just staggeringly annoying and idiotic. Player killers treated as some sort of monstrous sub humans that love the thrill of the kill (basic thug archetype from anime), main character awesome in power but reduced to beginner level (awesome silent guy archetype from anime), ultra helpful characters or cryptic characters that treat the world of a GAME as if it's the next step of human evolution.
There is zero immersion per say into the universe of the novel as the author often just stops and explains a lot of the stuff that's either a) completely irrelevant; b) boring for anyone that has ever played an RPG in their life; c)introduced forcibly down our throats when we really don't need it.
The main character is boring and annoying. He has no distinct personality as he fluctuates in all ways and forms from caring to asshole to caring again to protector to stone cold killer to etc etc etc.
Another defining factor of anime shows which got transported into this light novel is the absurd repetition of information. That may be useful for an anime show that airs once a week, but in a novel it's just stupid. Every few pages there's someone repeating (usually the main character) the basic plot points of the whole thing, sometimes on the same page as they happened. Yes, the character was there, we read them, why repeat them ad nauseam?

I borrowed this off a friend and I honestly can't imagine someone spending money on it. There's just almost no substance in it and the general idea of it all is simply stupid. Save yourselves a few hours and some money and steer clear away. There's nothing here worth the effort.
