Renegade Book

I liked the storyline, I really did, but I should clarify that I really wanted to give this book a 4/5, but I have to leave it as 3 stars and that has more to do with the editing of the book than the story itself. After sitting with the book a few days, the storyline grew on me. Even though the editing wasn't the best, the story was good enough to get me thinking about it days after I finished it, so, I changed my review from 3/5 to 4/5.

Even though some people may feel that Jaline and Jonathon might be a "boring" couple, I really enjoyed the more personal nature of the demons in the relationship, it's one of the things that makes it stand out from some of the other books out there and one of the main reasons I would recommend it.

Back to the editing. There are parts where it seems as though conversations are clipped short (like there was more, but it was edited out) and some transitions seem to be missing. For example, on pages 68-69, Jonathon had found Jaline outside of town by the graves of her parents and they have a nice chat, it rains as they're walking and he notices that, well, her clothes are so thin that you can see her body through her dress and puts his coat around her. It's a great romantic moment that get's lost because the reader gets confused because at the end of page 68, Jonathon and Jaline hadn't even made it to town (where the boat is docked) and by the next page, they're on the boat already.

Hey, I have no problem with passage of time, but it needs to be denoted or transitioned with a marking of some kind (such as "***" or some other symbol). That's what we readers are used to and expect to see from our romance novels. Somehow, I get the feeling that there was more to that scene that had been previously removed, and it's not the only time in the book I've felt this way.

Again, I don't place blame on the author here, but on the editor or agent for lack of appropriate editing because I know that sometimes, authors just don't have control over what gets editing and what doesn't.

I would recommend this book to anyone only because this girl shows some talent and with the right polishing, this story would have rocked.

If it gets re-released at some point with new edits, I'll be glad to re-read and re-review it because, it should get higher marks, however, the lack of transitions in spots disengages the reader from the story. Re-engaging isn't necessarily that difficult, it just gets frustrating and can lessen a reader's enjoyment of a what is really a good story!

It is definitely well-done for a first story. Hopefully, the editing snafu's that exist here, won't be there in her next one!

Please read her book and judge it for yourself! I definitely feel it is worth the read!!
