Mother Goat rescues six of her kids after they are swallowed by a wicked wolf.

Kori L. Mullins - Children's Literature

Who is the wolf pursuing—Little Red Riding Hood or The Three Little Pigs? No, this time the hungry wolf is out to gobble up seven little goats. The goats have been warned by their mother not to fall for the wolf's trickery. Leaving them alone, she instructs them to be cautious of visitors who have gruff voices and gray paws. Just as mother predicted the wolf appears at the door, and after several failed attempts, creates a disguise, enabling him to successfully enter and devour six of the young kids. When mother returns, the one surviving goat helps his mother rescue the others by cutting open the sleeping wolf's stomach, replacing the kids with stones, and slipping away unharmed. Whether an adult has a difficult time answering the many questions the ending of this story evokes or not, a laugh is inevitable. Once again, the old wolf gets his due. 20054, Picture Window Books, Ages 4 to 8.
