Enraged at not being invited to the princess's christening, a wicked fairy casts a spell that dooms the princess to sleep for one hundred years.

Kori L. Mullins - Children's Literature

When the queen gives birth to a daughter, called Beauty, the king hosts a party, inviting everyone in the kingdom—everyone except one lone fairy, that is. Being the only fairy of thirteen not invited, the evil fairy concocts a plan to punish the kingdom that overlooked her. She places a spell upon Beauty, cursing her to die at the tender age of fifteen by piercing her finger with a spindle. Attempting to save the princess, a frightened good fairy combats the bad fairy's curse by allowing Beauty to fall into a one-hundred year sleep, permitting only a prince to revive the princess. After a path of destruction overtakes the castle, young princes take action, battling the evil which has engulfed the castle. As the traditional fairy tale teaches us, the princess is awakened by the single kiss of a special prince. Childlike illustrations allow the reader to remain in child's world as the story unfolds. 2005, Picture Window Books, Ages 4 to 8.
