In this slim volume, Breuer (University of Trier) extends classical queueing models to develop new models that reflect the spatial distribution of users in a wireless telecommunications network. He presents new results in the theory of stochastic processes and classical queueing theory, and introduces new concepts in spatial Markovian arrival processes (SMAPs) and spatial queues. After coverage of Markov jump processes and the special class of Markov-additive jump processes, he derives an EM algorithm for batch Markovian arrival processes (BMAPs) and applies queues with SMAP to network cells and servers. Five of the ten chapters have been published previously in journals. Annotation (c)2003 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR
