Billy Tucker, the guitar-playing leader of the Bingham Penitentiary All-Star Country Band, can't find a good singer among the inmates to sing with the band. One day, by chance, Billy hears the warden singing when the warden picks up his car from the prison garage. To Billy's amazement, he realizes the warden is a better singer than anyone who tried out for the band. With nothing to lose, Billy asks the warden, Jesse "the Whiz" Manners, a rugged, former college all-American football hero, who secretly dislikes his job -- into becoming the lead singer with the band. The band and the warden become an immediate sensation at the prison concerts. Soon, the band is invited to play at prisons around the state.Their reputation spreads when they get a write-up in the local newspaper, followed by a report on the evening television news. People are surprised how good the warden can sing, and how good the band is. The people want to hear more. By serendipity, the band soon finds itself with a record producer. Could the band be on their way to fame and fortune? What does fate have in store for The Bingham Penitentiary All-Star Band?
