The Ben Franklin Award-winning fantasy on 5 CDs!A merciless army of rats swarms toward the underground mouse-city of Tiranor, and only one little mouse has the courage to face the onslaught.

Karen Sykeny - VOYA

This inspirational fiction begins the saga of a small, insignificant mouse named JaRed (Runt to his family and community). Runt discovers that his city's mortal enemies, the Rats, lead by the follower of the oldest evil, are about to secretly attack the city through the tunnels. Runt goes home and tells the Kingsguard. The Seer believes Runt and takes action by privately telling Runt that he will become the next king, after he proves his worth and shows his real size during the coming battle. HaRed, Runt's jealous and hateful older brother, tries to foil the plans to make Runt king. This story appears to be part of a new series and is ripe with biblical allegory and religious mythology. Ultimately it is a story about faith in a higher power as well as the age-old fight between good and evil. It should appeal to readers who enjoy the Redwall series with animals as main characters as well as to readers of C. S. Lewis because of its heavy emphasis on "God" and faith through allegory. The discussion of faith is a little heavy-handed at times, but it appears consistent with inspirational fiction. This series will be a nice addition to a young adult collection whose teen patrons seek clean, fast-paced, and accessible fantasy for everyone and should do well in public libraries with a solid Christian or inspirational fiction teen patron base.
