What will it take for a machine to have intelligence? What does it even mean to have intelligence? This book explores the what intelligence is, how it can be defined in a reproducible way, and then determine if digital computers are capable of it. The sub-theme that motivates much of the book is the concept of a computer communicating in natural language. The Turing test is examined as a test of intelligence and some conclusions are drawn and run to their logical end as it pertains to a finitely refinable machine.
