About the Author
Mary R. DeMaine recently resigned as Dean of Academic Affairs and Chair and Associate Professor of Liberal Arts at the College of Visual Arts to cofound a consulting firm, Pozzolana Strategies, LLC. She is also the director of a collaborative research project in Slovenia that is preparing a sociological analysis of the Romans who lived in the area of modern Slovenia, and is the director for Roman excavations in the Lake District project in England directed by Carl Blair. She has published numerous articles about ancient glass, trade, and the sociological matrix of Roman Slovenia in the Journal of Glass Studies, the Annales de l¹Association internationale pour l¹histoire du verre, and the University of Calgary Archaeological Association¹s Chacmool Proceedings. She is also the editor of a textbook titled Ancient Glass in Minnesota Collections. Rabun M. Taylor received his Ph.D. in Classical Studies from the University of Minnesota. He is currently Assistant Professor of History of Art and Architecture at Harvard University. Roman urbanism, topography, and architectural history claim most of his scholarly energies. His recent publications include articles in the Papers of the British School at Rome and the American Journal of Archaeology on two aqueducts of Imperial Rome, the Aqua Traiana and the Aqua Alsietina. His article in this collection draws from a work in progress on water distribution in the western and southern districts of ancient Rome.
