This book contains two stories which despite the subtitle weren't exactly 'suppressed'. The first story, "Jesus on Mars", is an abridged version of the novel that was supposed to be printed in Isaac Asimov's Science Fiction Magazine. Due to editing problems and time constraints, the book came out before the story could be run. The second story, "Riverworld War", is a chapter that was cut from the Riverworld novel The Magic Labyrinth.

After reading Typhon's Children, I had pretty high expectations for the sequel and I felt disappointed. The aquatic world was rich, and I liked the remnants of the old culture of intelligent life that the characters encountered. I felt that with as crucial as Per's background was to the plotline, however, I wanted more information about it, and was not as impressed with the finale of his storyline as much as I probably should have been.
