Mina Rosner lived through the Holocaust in Poland during the Second World War. she and thousands od other Jews were forced into ghettos, deprived of their possessions, and brutalized by the forces of Adolf Hitler and his collaborators. In the space of three years the author lost every member of her immediate family. They were dragged from their homes and hiding places, shot, or gassed. Their bodies were dumped into unmarked graves. The goal was to rid Poland of Jews and it was almost realized. Can fear and hate be so strong that neighbor is turned against neighbor? Yes, says the author. Clever Nazi propaganda aroused latent anti-Semitism and Jews were systematically rounded up and annihilated with brutal efficiency. There was no significant interference. It seemed fiendishly simple. More than a generation has passed since the end of the Second World War. As terrible as the Holocaust was, some people now wish to deny it. There is renewed evidence of intolerance and hate. It is because of this that Mina Rosner now tells her story. She reminds us that persecution because of race, religion, or color can have frightening consequences. The events of those few years affected her in a way she can never forget.
