I first learned of Mel Glenn's work over a year ago when I read Who Killed Mr. Chippendale? as a possible genre book for mysteries. (It was too graphic for 7th graders.) I learned that he had other books and I bought some on eBay. This book got lost in the stacks on my desk.

I enjoy his poetry and I suspect my students will, too. Although the photos are dated, the connection between the poetry written and the photographs of actual students (from the 80s) provides a connection between speaker and poem. The poems, themselves, reminded me of life in high school (although I admit that there's a possible connection felt because I was in high school in the 80s).

I think anyone who is or was an adolescent in American high school can appreciate this book of poetry.
