Culture and Difference
When she's dealing in examples or case studies, I'm impressed and engaged. When she's lecturing unreflexively on the virtues of liberal democracies, it is as if she is a different person. I find it difficult to reconcile her adept and nuanced engagement with concrete, historical examples of inequality with her heavy-handed and clumsy celebration of "mainstream culture" and "equality", which is only ever nominally cultural. With a more thorough conception of power, her effective case studies could contribute to meaningful change in a way her toothless solution of "intercultural democratic dialogue with a spirit of cross-cultural humility" never will.
