Capillary Electrophoresis Guidebook offers both newcomers and experienced research workers hands-on guidance to performing capillary electrophoresis. It provides sufficient practical advice to permit you to develop and optimize your own separations, along with extensive troubleshooting sections to overcome practical difficulties.
The book contains operating instructions for standard commercially available instruments and includes guidelines for activities such as changing capillaries, method development, quantitative procedures, optimizing sensitivity, and the validation of methods. Review chapters written by leading experts discuss micellar electrokinetic capillary chromatography, capillary gel electrophoresis, advanced sampling techniques, and electrochromatography. Important application areas such as the analysis of proteins, peptides, amino acids, pharmaceuticals, chiral compounds, and nucleic acids are also treated.
This book presents the general theory and practice of capillary electrophoresis (CE) and also contains nine chapters devoted to specific techniques and applications. The latter include topics such as micellar electrokinetic chromatography, capillary gel electrophoresis, chiral separations, analysis of bases, nucleosides and oligonucleotides, and separation of peptides and protein digests. The book is intended as a working guide to the operation of CE instrumentation and as a review of some of the important applications of this relatively new technique. The book would be of interest to researchers in academia and industry who wish to apply CE to their work. The material presented was kept as current as possible by including notes added in proof at the end of each chapter. Here, the most recent findings relevant to the subject are presented, and references to newly published work are cited. This text offers a competent overview of CE; however, it is not as comprehensive as some other CE texts that have recently appeared. The actual quantity of information presented is less than the text's 349 pages would suggest. The scope of applications presented is rather limited, and many of these are not of direct interest to molecular biologists. The book does not contain enough novel features to recommended it over previously published texts on this topic. Libraries who are determined to collect the complete series might wish to purchase this volume.
