Children's Literature

Jacob Two-Two earned his unusual nickname for several reasons, the main one being that he has to say everything two times because no one hears him the first time. This is because he is the youngest of five siblings. Jacob Two-Two has a good family but life at Privilege House, the expensive private school he attends, has been difficult to say the least. Ever since the school's beloved headmaster, Mr. Goodbody, was replaced by Mr. I. M. Greedyguts, the school has felt more like a prison than an educational facility. To make matters worse, Perfectly Loathsome Leo Louse is now providing all of the school meals; therefore, every one basically consists of hot water poured over a carrot. Fortunately, Jacob Two-Two's new neighbor Mr. Dinglebat says he is a Master Spy. Can Mr. Dinglebat help Jacob Two-Two expose the corruption at Privilege House, or is he just a crazy old imposter, as Jacob's family suspects? Readers will love this quirky and creative story, which comes complete with magic tricks and secret codes that can be read only by holding the book up to a mirror. Reviewer: Denise Daley
