Preserving Summer's Bounty: A Quick and Easy Guide to Freezing, Canning, Preserving, and Drying What You Grow Book

Preserving Summer's Bounty is a great compendium of all of the ways to preserve summer foods as well as how to know when to harvest those same fruits and vegetables.

The second half of the book is recipes to use up all of those preserved things once you are done with all of that preserving.

There is a LOT of information in this book and even includes how to make your own dehydrator if you have the room and want to put one together. There was also a section on how to make a root cellar in your unfinished basement, which I think is a really cool idea.

I love the idea of preserving some of our summer harvests, but I also like to eat as much of it while as fresh as possible. I think that home preserving is one of the most important skills to know just in case something happens and we all need to rely on some of these skills that are beginning to be lost.

All that being said, I'm not entirely sure that this book would make its way onto my permanent cookbook shelf. There are lots of great ideas, but it's not a book that makes canning and freezing very exciting or glamorous.
