The author is successful in providing a comprehensive textbook in this regard.
Audience:The book is directed at otolaryngologists with a special interest in otology. The book is helpful for residents in training and practicing clinicians. The author is a well known authority of otology in Germany, though less well known in the United States.
Features:This textbook systematically covers the different areas of otology including surgical anatomy, trauma, pediatrics, chronic middle ear disease, and tumors. The color photographs and the radiographic illustrations greatly enhance the readability and understanding of the subject matter. Since the book attempts to cover all areas in a compact text, some of the material is covered in a rather superficial manner.
Assessment:This is an excellent resource for residents who want a manageable textbook for introduction to the field of otology. The format with color photographs greatly facilitates the understanding of the subject matter.
