April Book

The African-American culture is something that is often times looked over. The author and the illustrator of this book do a great job at summarizing the different African-American holidays that are celebrated by most African-Americans. Each page represents an African-American holiday with a brief summary and an image that relates to the particular holiday. The text does a great job at answering the basic questions someone may have in regards to African-American holidays, while the images really help the reader understand what is being said. I also enjoyed how at the bottom of each page, there was a fun fact about each holiday. Another interesting detail in this book is that there is a "how-to" on how to make an African-American sculpture!

In the back of the book, there are only three sites listed as reference points, along with the address to a historical museum. I wish the author would have included more online reference points for readers that want to look further into the history behind African-American holidays. However, there are several books listed for further reading, which could also be helpful.
