Photographs of a teddy bear demonstrate the relationships shown by such prepositions as up and down, in and out, and through and between.
Mortimer is a brown teddy bear who is posed among real objects to help kids with their math skills. In this book, the subject is spatial location. Pictures show common objects such as a vase of flowers, playground slide, and bucket. Mortimer is in front of or behind the vase, up or down the slide and in or out of the bucket. Most of the pairing make sense, although beside and through are unusual choices. As with several others in the series the last page asks a question, but no answer is given. Contents page, glossary/index and listing of videos are included. Part of the "Mortimer's Math" series. 2000, Gareth Stevens, Ages 3 to 6, $19.93. Reviewer: Marilyn Courtot
