The seeker's guide to the Christian story Book

I struggled with the ideas in this book. I struggled with the conservatism, with the dismissals of the horrors of the Inquisition as well as of the Church's silence on the face of Nazism, I struggled with the attacks on the Theology of Liberation (on which my education in Brazil was formed), with the defense of the Catholic Church's support to the conquest of the non-European world. But I also struggled in a positive way to apprehend two thousand years of the Roman Catholic Church (as well as the Eastern Orthodox and Protestant Reformation churches) in a single grasp. And despite myself, I was able to respect and admire what Edward Norman's points out as the Universalist and Humanist (even anti-capitalist) aspects of Catholicism. This book shows me I'm much more of a catholic than a nationalist. Give me the church over the nation anytime! Having said that, I completely support the ordination of women as priests, and, as a gay man, I'm going to wait until the views of the church evolve into acceptance before I declare myself catholic ever again and start attending mass.
