Mark Twain said, "The difference between the right word and the almost right word is the difference between lightning and the lightning bug." Every public speaker and writer knows the power of the right word, but finding such words for a particular occasion can be difficult. A prolific author and an accomplished public speaker, Bob Kelly has made a living by mastering the use of language and sharing it with others.
This collection includes familiar quotes along with a variety of unique quotes gathered by Kelly over the course of twenty-plus years. Selections range from funny to profound, from inspirational to entertaining, from educational to spiritually motivating and uplifting.
Bob Kelly is obsessed with books of quotations. Beginning when he was 12 years old, he has collected books of quotations and now has almost 400 of them, totaling about 1.5 million entries. This collection gleans his favorites, with indexes of sources and subjects. The authors range from Milton Berle to Francis Bacon, though not all will be instantly recognizable. Like any book of quotations, one may have to use a synonym to find an appropriate quotation. For example, there is no category for "environment," but there is one for "nature." The two-column format, easy-to-read type and a lot of white space make the book easier on the eyes than many books of quotations. Writers and speakers will find this book easy to use. KLIATT Codes: JSARecommended for junior and senior high school students, advanced students, and adults. 2003, Kregel, 400p. indexes., Ages 12 to adult.
