Davy Crockett was born on August 17, 1786 in a backwoods cabin in eastern Tennessee. At age twelve, David learned how to shoot a rifle. When he grew up, he won most of the shooting matches he entered and became a well-known storyteller. No matter where he lived, he was popular. He was elected to three terms in the House of Representatives. After being defeated in the congressional election of 1835, he was ready for new adventure. He rode to Texas, where he fought and died in the Battle of the Alamo.

A Picture Book of Davy Crockett
While reading Golden Sunrise by Mattie Richardson, our son wanted to learn more about Davy Crockett so we headed to the library. We checked out several books including this picture by David A. Adler.
In general, I think this picture book did a nice job of introducing the life of David Crockett. The only change I would make is to not read aloud the intro and conclusion pages which focus more on the tall tales. These were a bit confusing for our younger child.
I do think this series of books is valuable as introductory biographies for children.
