Perfect Neutrals
One of my favorite decorating books of the many I've read. A great reminder that interiors don't have to be ALL WHITE, which I find cold and boring. Even the alternate of black-white-gray is cold and boring. Earth tones are for too many the only alternate color scheme.
I love color. My only quibble here is their near insistence that the best color for walls is always the palest color. Not so. I know it's popular to have homes like a gallery, but not all paintings and artwork work only with a white background. Many are better shown off against a stronger color.
Each color grouping has two or three layers of colors. The main groups are: off whites, grays, greens, blues, pinks, sunny tones, earth and spice. My favorite is the blues, but all of the others have arrangements that I like. Each area begins with a page showing the colors covered in that section. Within the blues are Duck's-egg to denim, Lilac to heather, Violet to midnight. In the violet to midnight group are: indigo, peacock, violet, deep teal, midnight, cobalt, and petrol (which for some reason is a blue color name). They're called "moody, dramatic, sexy, and glamorous - true night-time shades." Within each grouping in addition to the decorated rooms or areas, is a page of textile and fabric swatches, with texture emphasized as well as color.
Highly recommended for anybody who likes color in their environment.
