Mixed Feelings


Writing: I liked Kristina Cooks writing style. The book was actually written appropriately for the era. 3rd Person Narration; 2 POV.

Characters: Lucy and Henry are the main characters. I wanted to like them, but something about Henry kept me from getting attached. Also, I felt weird about Colin's role in the story. He was more concerned for Lucy than his 'actual' sisters.

Storyline: Lucy's come out season is being sponsored by the Rosemoors. While the sponsoring family is welcomed into society, Lucy's humble background presents challenges. Henry is a Marchioness and is determined to marry well, but he falls in love with Lucy. He is faced with either marrying well to increase his status or marry for love.

My biggest issue with this story is that Henry treats Lucy like a whore/mistress. He feels her up every chance he gets. At the end of the story, Henry sleeps with her and then afterward gives a lame proposal. AFTER, he has sex with her. Lucy even wonders earlier in the book
"No, he [Henry] likely hadn't taken such liberties with Lady Helena. The girl's pedigree was impeccable."
Henry takes advantage of Lucy's ignorance of the way proper society works.

I know, I know…Lucy could have said no too and she holds some of the blame as well.

Intimacy Scenes: I didn't like them. It felt dirty to me (and not in a good way). Henry was taking advantage of Lucy.

Overall: It was okay. I just didn't like the relationship development between Lucy and Henry.
