The region of Galloway remains one of the territories for which little is known about the Middle Scots dialect, and Bugaj (English, U. of Poznan, Poland) uses the earliest extant text from the area, the Wigtown Burch Court Book (1512-34), to flesh out the knowledge. She worked mainly from a transcript, but was also able to consult the original in the Dumfries Local Archive. Annotation ©2004 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR
